CTE Advisory Council

The Advisory Council for Career and Technical Education is charged by New York State law with the task of advising the Department of Education on the development, administration, and evaluation of policies and programs relating to Career and Technical Education.

The Council defines its mission as assisting the Department of Education in providing to all CTE students relevant and meaningful programs for acquiring high-level academic and workforce preparation skills. The Council is comprised of high-level contacts and volunteers from business and industry, labor, postsecondary education, and the non-profit sector. The Council also encompasses themed subcommittees, the Student with Disabilities and the Gender Equity Subcommittee. The priorities of the Advisory Council include:

      • New York State Education Department-CTE Certification
      • Alignment of CTE programs to Labor Market Demand
      • Work-Based Learning, Apprenticeships and Talent Pipeline Development
      • Externships, Teacher Training, and Licensure
      • Middle-school articulations to CTE programs
