Art & Design HS Sophomores Win $17,000 for Their Student Films

Last Friday at ABC Studios, newscaster Sade Baderinwa awarded students from the High School of Art & Design the First Prize ($12,000) and the Third Prize ($5,000) in the 2014 ABC/Disney Get Reel With Your Dreams competition. Both pulic service announcements (PSAs) were entirely written, filmed and edited by sophomore film students who have been studying film for less than a year.

Graphics Scholarship Foundation Funds 28 Students and Names Jack Powers “Champion of Education”

Last week’s edition of Metro Graphics Reporter, an industry trade publication, covered the 2014 Graphic Communications Scholarship Foundation (GCSF) Awards celebration held June 19 at the Hearst Tower in midtown. Now in its twelfth year, the Foundation is a spin-off of the CTE Council’s Graphics Industry Advisory Commission that provides tuition money to New York metro area students.

High School of Fashion Industries Students Shine in 2014 Bridal Challenge

For the past three years, Kleinfeld has worked closely with the High School of Fashion Industries to provide students with an opportunity to see their designs come to life within a renowned couture environment. Yesterday, Kleinfeld’s salon was transformed once again into a runway where three competition finalists could showcase their bridal designs before the eyes of several industry gurus. This year’s finalists included Hadassa Dorcean, Lashun Costor, and Stacy Isaacs.

Nine CTE High Schools Place Winners in the Citywide Graphic Arts Competition

Every year, the Graphic Arts Industry Advisory Commission, the New York City College of Technology (CityTech) and industry partners sponsor a citywide competition for graphics students in Desktop Publishing & Graphic Design, Web Site Design, Digital Video Production, Digital Photography, Package Design and Student Filmmaking. Last Friday, over a hundred graphics students gathered at CityTech’s labs to compete in the thirteenth annual Finals.

New York City Wins 29 Medals in Statewide SkillsUSA Competition

May 12, 2014

New York City public high schools placed high in the statewide SkillsUSA Competition at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. Over 2,000 students competed in 82 categories like 3D Visualization, Construction Skills, IT Technologies and Health Care. Eleven New York City schools sent their biggest contingent yet, winning 29 medals in a broad set of contests. Many winners will go on to the SkillsUSA National Finals in June in Kansas City.
